The true story behind Pet Stone: from Gary Dahl to today

In 1975, a man became a millionaire selling rocks. No, this isn't a joke. We're just owning what comes next.

Gary Dahl, an American advertising executive, was tired of hearing his friends complain about the demands of their pets. Feeding, walking, cleaning up after. One day he had an absurd idea: what if the perfect companion was a rock? No food, no vet, no running away. The "Pet Rock" was born, complete with a spoof training manual. The result: over a million units sold within months. A satire of overconsumption that became a consumption phenomenon itself. The irony is total, and that's exactly what we love about it.

Fifty years later, we're picking up the torch

Pet Stone didn't invent anything. We took a brilliant, fifty-year-old idea and brought it into our own era: one of screens everywhere, digital burnout, and an urgent need to switch off. The principle stays the same: a minimalist companion that asks for nothing.

What we changed: the local DNA

Unlike the original, mass-produced overseas, our stones come from the beaches of the North of France. The packaging and guide are printed locally, between the North and Belgium. No container crossing the planet, no production outsourced to the other side of the world.

Gary Dahl sold humour and common sense in a world saturated with consumption. We sell the same thing, with a stone that has a real story, a real origin, and zero unnecessary miles.
